pay myself or claim?

My partner misjudged an underground parking space, dented the passenger door and scraped the side of the car. I have had a quote of £1000, which seems reasonable and my insurance excess is £400. I know that if I claim on my insurance that the premiums will go up in successive years despite having protected NCD and not having made a claim in the last 5 years. Is it worth claiming or not?

What did they damage the car on? Was there any damage to at object?
Near the end of my claims days councils and car parks etc were getting ever more keen on claiming for damage to barriers etc caused by accidents0 -

log on to the meerkats. Run a quote with and without the claim. That way you'll see what difference it will make. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
You've got to work out the difference between the extra £600 you'll pay out yourself and any loading on premiums over 5 years. As above, do some quotes to find out. Personally I can't see the claim via insurance costing you that much in increased premium.0

Do the dummy premium quotes and get another couple of quotes for the repairs.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
You need to ask around and find a small body shop and ask them for a quote. You want to get that quote down to £500 - £700.
Are they repairing or replacing the door?0
