can i close my account?

So I am over my overdraft and being charged. I have opened a new account with a different bank and transferring £250 from old account to show as overdraft on new account. Trying to avoid more charges. Have set it up to be main account and close old account. Can I do this as I still have £500 overdraft with old bank to pay off. Was gonna set up dd or standing order from new to old to finally start reducing overdraft. Do I need to contact new bank to ask to keep old account open.. I think I have made a mistake.. Please help..

Not been in the OD before and wanted to close the account but I imagine the bank would say no you cant close it yet whilst there is the OD to repay. Do as what your ging to do and setup a DD to pay the OD off. WHy contact the new bank to keep old account open ?

this is confusing - can you clarify what you mean? Did you use £250 from your overdraft with your old bank and deposited it into your new bank? If so, why?

do you mean you used the new bank's switcher service and you have asked them to close your old account?

no, your old bank won't close your account as long as you owe them money on it

I think they mean they opened a new account with an interest free overdraft (like Nationwide FlexDirect) and have taken £250 from that to deposit into another bank account which is charging interest.

    Maybe. It is confusing.
