Hi
I saw the guardians coverage of the recent launch of iPhone 5s and there was a bit which said.......

iWork, iPhoto, iMovie on iOS will be free
Keynote and Pages and Numbers (Apple's version of PowerPoint, Word, and Excel)... plus iPhone and iMovie: "a really key advance for customers' productivity.. no other platform has any apps like these."

"Today we're announcing that we're making all five of these industry-leading apps free." That's quite a move - Apple staking a claim to content creation. (It also showed a web-enabled iWork in June, so this is a key move.)

Is this for iPad etc or just the macs? Still charging in the app store,
Cheers

  • So far they're free if buying a 'NEW' iOS device, it's not been mentioned if they'll be free for older devices.

Numbers and Pages are absolute lemons IMHO. If you want productivity apps and not to pay for them then skip these and go straight to libre office. Never tried keynote but when did anyone last suggest a keynote as opposed to PowerPoint presentation? Same with Excel and Word. Libre office is compatible, Numbers and Pages filters can't be opened on the vast majority of computers and tablets.

I use iWork on my mac and Keynote has always produced stunning results. All iWork programs export files into office, or as PDFs if you have to work stuff on a Windows machine, certain fonts may not translate but I've never known any major problems.

That being said libre office is worth looking at, and office for mac is meant to be awesome (ive been told, never used it)
