Eon disconnect without notice & fit pre-payment meter.

I moved into a new flat in April 2013. The previous resident didn't pay the gas account. Sick of all the letters for her, I rang EON and sent them sight of my Tenancy Agreement by fax (proof received from fax machine). Eon Welcomed me as a new customer.
I went travelling around Asia for a few months and came home to find my gas supply cut off. Ive had no Mags letter, nothing, just a letter on my dining table telling me my supply is cut off. This apparently happened in May. Worst still, my entire freezers defrosted, food rotted and my wooden floor warped with the defrosted ice etc as they also switched off my electric to tend to the disconnection. They didn't put the switch to 'ON' on leaving the property.
So, now got no gas supply. I'm getting nowhere with Eon. They want me to pay off the previous occupiers £900 debt AND say I have to pay £80 to have some sort of 'disc' put in the pre-payment meter before I can use it!
It's been hot and ive been working away, so I haven't needed my gch on. I cook on electric.
Been told by others my supply is now 'shipped' as its been inactive for 3 months + so Eon are powerless and cant oppose a switch of supplier.
Can I now just go to another supplier and forget Eon? This is grinding me down. I just want my gas on before winter

You are going to need to speak to E.ON to sort this out.
Your supply is still with E.ON, and they will oppose a switch of supplier.
You can if they welcomed you, you should have a reference number - use this when you call them.
How did you arrange to pay for the gas when you were travelling for a few months?

The electrcity fridge thing keep seperate from your gas.
Write to them stating only the facts of what happened, and any costs you have incurred.
Tell them what you expect to happen, and why.

    Hi karikins

In these circumstances, where we've seen a valid Tenancy Agreement, action to fit a prepayment meter under warrant should stop.

As it's now gone beyond that and we've gone to Court and obtained a warrant, the team who arranged this need to re-examine the situation.

If we've not acted correctly, we'll reverse the action and re-install a credit meter.

As we've been to Court, this case will now sit with our Warrants Team and they're the ones to talk to. Contact details will be in the letter we left.

I'd also raise the freezer issue with them. They're the ones who will have engaged the locksmith and arranged the engineer. Consequently, they'll be able to liaise directly with the people who entered the flat and carried out the work.

I'm sorry if we've acted inappropriately but hope this points you in the right direction.

How many months did you go missing? Also to disconnect gas you don't need to touch the electric
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I like how trivial you think breaking into a property and causing damage and upseting the occupants is quite easily reversed.

I would be quite disappointed if Malc poured his guts out instead.

Sadly, it has happened and the best thing to concentrate on is a solution. As I remind customers, I can keep saying sorry over and over again but it won't make your problem go away.
  • i don't buy joke books anymore, reading some of the ways of forcing customers to pay their bills is far more amusing :)
