Relate telephone/online counselling

I've been thinking of going to relate for relationship counselling but my nearest office is quite a distance away. It's not so far that it's impossible but it would make things difficult. I noticed on their website that they also offer counselling by phone and online but I've been unable to find any reviews or opinions on this. I'm wondering if it would be as good as seeing someone face to face. Has anyone any experience of this?

Personally, I think so much of that rapport and relationship you develop with you therapist is based on non verbal cues/feedback, that I would opt for the face-to-face. There are often places outside of relate that you could still explore these issues that might be more accessible for you- for example many towns have low cost counselling services that are open to all, and this can be a more affordable way of accessing counselling/therapy0

Have a look on the BACP website, you can search for counsellors in your local area who provide relationship therapy, you may even find someone cheaper than Relate as you're going to the counsellor direct and not through a third party.
While telephone/online counselling is becoming more popular, I wouldn't recommend it for a couple. The interaction is an important part of the therapy process.
Also, check if either of your employers have an EAP program, you may be able to get a limited amount of sessions for free. I work for an EAP provider and arrange couples counselling every day!
