Are these conservatory costs a bit crazy?

We are looking at putting a conservatory on our new house so have had a couple of quotes in the last couple of days, both from big local firms but not National ones.

To say I have been surprised is an understatement as for a 4x3.5m conservatory with glass roofs I have had quotes of £21,500 and £17,800. Neither of these included anything fancy like underfloor heating but did include one of the walls having brickwork up to shoulder height.

I had been told by a surveyor friend that you should look at about £1000 a square metre for a good conservatory but these prices are between £1200 and £1500!

Was I hoping too much to think that prices may be more in the region of £12,000 to £14,000?

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Not really, just standard Edwardian roof.
  • £14k max (should include glass roof and electrics for that) You should be able to get it for less than that due to the time of year.

bit toppy. naturally, depends on what you want, but you can pick up conservatories for 4 to 8k plus labour, so 10-12k is a good ballpark.

    Where abouts do you live?

We're in the process of having quotes for a conservatory and for a 4.5 x 3m edwardian conservatory with polycarb roof we've been given ballpark figures of £9,000 from one company and £11,000 from another. Both companies said a glass roof would add another £1,000. This includes electrics and ceramic tiles for floor (upto £15/sqm).

    These prices are complete bonkers.

I've just had £16k quoted to me for a 7.5M X 3.5M full length job. For what you are asking you shouldn't pay more than £12k. Even £1k per square metre is expensive - I would think £650-700 per square metre is achievable if you really shop around hard.
