What's the next step I need to take to improve my credit rating

Hi

I've got the following:

1 current account
2 30 day mobile phone contracts (1 is mobile broadband)
1 Vanquis credit card
1 Credit builder loan

Not sure what to do next, I tried to sign up to a catalogue a few months ago (jd Williams) and was turned down after initially being accepted.

Just wanted to know whether I should go for another credit card eg Luma or Aqua or another catalogue or do nothing lol
Any ideas?

Thanks

  • Also I've googled and googled and can't seem to find any definitive answers on which catalogue companies are likely to accept someone with poor credit. I came across a thread from 2009 which suggested studio catalogue may be of help. Any ideas?
  • The credit card is enough. Just use it and pay it off in full each month.

No need to go buying shoddy tat from overpriced catalogues.
  • With regards to the catalogue, I would literally get a pair of socks every now and then. But you don't think its a worthy line of credit?
  • No. Use the card and get your socks from BHS*.

*Other mid market department stores are available.
  • Stick to the card. Buy your food shop on it. I have never had a good experience with catalogues. Always getting turned down with them and my credit rating is not that good because of my age. My mum has an Argos card which you could look into? Not sure how good your credit rating will need to be.

I would just stick to the card and also don't apply for a lot of stuff because that will shoot your credit rating down if you get rejected a lot.
  • Thanks for the replies

It's not about how much credit you can take out it's about how long/well you've managed a line of credit.
  • Ok thank you

You can't improve your 'credit rating' because you don't have one (nobody does). Some good points made above on how to improve your credit worthiness though.
