Corner Toilets vs Hidden Cistern

I have a small bathroom and I am trying to work out which is better to fit.

Space is very limited, the wall is only stud work so it won't be to big an issue to put in cistern in.

This will be the only toilet in the house, has anyone had any experience living with a corner toilet? Too small?

Corner toilets are very awkward simply from an ergonomic point of view! I had my toilet fitted at least six inches away from the wall for a more comfortable experience...

The fitter had originally put it tight into the corner but I asked him to move it slightly.

Remember it's something you'll be using daily so you don't want it to be an awkward and uncomfortable experience.

  • Evoke - are you talking about fitting a normal toilet into a corner? I got the impression that talking duck was going to fit a specially designed corner toilet with a triangular cistern ...

Haven't got one, but I don't think there would be a problem with the corner one, but I prefer not to have the "hidden" cistens - I like to be able to get into it easily if something goes wrong (doesn't stop filling, handle breaks, won't flush for some reason)
I also prefer the "floor mounted" ones over the hanging ones - I think modern walls aren't designed for hanging toilets on, especially if you have heavier people using it - I know some don't actually "hang" but building them in is such a faff
  • If it fits fine and will look good in the space, I would go with the corner one if space is tight. It will depend on the layout of the bathroom and what fits best.

With the hidden cistern, you need to make room for it with a false wall, either full height, which will make the room look smaller, or a lower wall with a shelf on top.

You will need to be able to access the cistern should there be a problem.

We have gone with the hidden cistern and low false wall with removable shelf over cistern, but our bathrooms are pretty big.

Our toilet is floor standing, those hanging ones make me nervous!

I stand corrected! I just recall having a normal toilet fitted tight into a corner and it was not convenient at all.

  • At least with the corner job you are not going to fall off it if you nod off.

    Good point
Thank you for the replies, I think I will steer clear of the wall hung toilets and go for the corner :D
  • We have quite a small bathroom as our only one in the house and we considered similar options. In the end we decided to get a shorter length toilet. It looks exactly the same as a regular toilet, sits back to the wall but doesn't stick out as far and the actual toilet bowl/seat is slightly smaller than a regular. At first it did feel smaller but now we can't tell the difference and it frees up that bit of extra space in the bathroom. We've also had larger guests than ourselves come over and they've never complained if they've used it
