EDF Meter Swap, missing serial numbers

Hi guys

This is my first post and was looking some advice

I live in a new build and have lived here since it was first built (3 1/2 years ago)

EDF sent me a letter saying my electricity meter is at the end of it's life and needs to be swapped. G4S came and did this in June THIS YEAR

I called EDF 2 weeks after and the meter serial number hadn't been updated, was told 4 weeks

another 2 weeks later, I was told 2 months

Left it until a couple of weeks ago, still no updated serial number, logged a complaint, spoke to a lady who advised she would contact G4S to get the details and call me back, she didn't call back

So I called EDF (for the 6th time, at 30 mins each time) and was advised to obtain the serial number myself, so I got the caretaker of the building to get this as we don't have access to the cupboard where they are stored, he provided the serial number of the meter (since verified as correct by myself)

EDF have now said that they need to fill out a missing meter form which will take another 2 to 3 months to resolve, they asked me to verify the serial number (see above)

I'm at the end of my tether with this company

What i'd like to know is, i've got an MPAN from my EDF bill

Can I move suppliers and let EDF sort this out themselves, or is the MPAN linked to the serial number on the old meter that was replaced

Therefore if it is, i'd need to wait for them to update their records with the new serial number to link to the MPAN before I can move suppliers

Many thanks in advance

I think changing suppliers before this is resolved will only end in tears. You need to start off on the premise that all energy suppliers are incompetent so bringing another into the equation will only complicate matters.

Do you have the card with the dates and close and open reads of the meters or do you know these details ?

If so write a proper old fashioned letter headed big and bold COMPLAINT with all the details and send it to EDF.

ask them to send a meter person out to check it
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
  • Hi

I fired off a complaint to the Directors office, they've admitted they've failed and had several opportunities to put it right but haven't

G4S haven't got a record of the meter swap even though they swapped it (not sure how incompetant G4S are in this area)

I spoke to a lady in the directors office today, and i've said that if they need any details, then they'll need to send someone and liase with the caretaker (he's agreed to give his mobile number out) as i've done enough running around and chasing, it's now their job to put this right and for EDF to do all the running, i'll merely just confirm things

I've looked at my account and there's an estimated meter reading from the day the meter was changed, but G4S don't have any meter readings, neither did they leave a card with any details on or pass anything to EDF, and EDF haven't bothered to investigate it up until now

I've said that they've got 3 months to sort this out, meanwhile they've placed my account on hold so that I don't get any bills in the meantime

I've never encountered such incompetence and i've been with BT 10 years

Once resolved i've been promised generous compensation, after which i'll move suppliers

    Thanks for your replies
