So what are we left with? The Devon Index?

... you mean something like the FTSE All Share - only called FTSE All Despair?

It was interesting to read recently that the boss of Tesco believes the era of cheap food plucked from far flung parts of the globe is coming to an end.

The reason? Supermarket chains like Tesco are now having to compete with new consumers from China and elsewhere. Competition for finite resources will push up prices.

If you then correlate this experience with a report on 5Live yesterday discussing world population growing to a peak of 9 or 10 billion, it's hard not to imagine even more competition for relatively finite resources.

It's hard not to imagine new challenges ahead.

Supermarket boss in shock "we would like to gouge more money from our customers".

It would be interesting to hear his views on why ASDA manage to be consistently cheaper than Tesco, not too mention Aldi who are way cheaper.

I would also like to ask him why Tesco stores are close to freezing inside and how much energy this wastes.

Any so-called answers would simply be waffle, weasel words, and managementspeak.

Luckily, we are free to shop wherever we like. Tesco wouldn't be the market leader it is if it wasn't doing something the majority prefer.

You don't get many points for going down the pan.

I don't propose going down the pan.

Running the economy is probably more difficult than a game of pinball, and it has higher stakes.

But I suspect there are universal 'laws' behind it all. Just like Newtons 3 main laws, I suspect there are some inviolate economic laws..... I wonder what they are?

I am not convinced they actually do know what they are doing any more, if they ever did. Making things up as they go along and hope no one notices.

Having the buffers in their helped keep them on track.

There are no universal laws behind the "economy" because economics is not a science.

Our current economy is run by liars and thieves gaming the system.

You are entitled to your views on benefits claimants by all means.

But I think the politicians are also to blame.....
