so basicaly what you are saying is that if i move with her we will be seen by the officers as a couple even if we arent in reality, so i will have to pay all the rent of the flat because its only 1 bedroom and i have to support my "partner"?
i am bisexual, more gay than bi actually. But that doesnt matter i guess?
Should i just move in a shared flat with other people then?

    You are sharing a bedroom.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.
  • A bit of a problem, here as if you move in with a woman, renting a 1 bedroom flat, you will definitely be seen as a couple. As you have now admitted that you are bisexual, more gay than bi (your words) if you move into a 1 bedroom flat and share with a man, you will also be seen as a couple. I suppose you could try to find a practising Monk or a Nun, but what ever, you, are going to have problems. Try 2 bedrooms.

they won't just stop her benefits for half the rent, they would stop it for all the rent and any claim would be based on total household income.
Why on earth would you want to move into a situation like this if you were not a couple...you could rent a room in a shared house so at least you would have your own room. Why would she want to give up half her bedroom to a 'friend'?

    thanks @ everyone

so the only way we can live as friends and not be suspected of fraud is to move into a 2 bedroom flat.

each to their own i guess @nannytone &gayleanne ive lived in spain and portugal with females in the same room and it was always a laugh
  • A few years ago, after I left uni and had nowhere else to live, a friend (opposite sex) offered me a roof over my head. I wasn't working at the time and was claiming Unemployment Benefit. She, though, ran a business from home. She didn't charge me any rent, and it was only temporary. But we had a visit from a DSS Inspector who wanted unequivocal proof that we weren't living as a couple. That was easy enough: I was sleeping on a camp bed in her office! I'm not sure - but sharing a bedroom with someone of whichever sex... I think you'd need to be pretty convincing with your story.
