Can anyone help me find cheap bulbs online?

Why is it so difficult to find cheap energy efficient light bulbs on the internet? It seems like there is a serious lack of information on what are the best replacement bulbs to use. I tried buying some a while back and they just aren't as bright as the old GLS type. Anyone feel like sharing what they use? I am looking for the screw in type.

  • I bought some off amazon a while back, had about 7 Phillips for £12 was on offer at the time tho, type in energy bulbs on amazon then, click "FREE Super Saver Delivery" on left of page to narrow down
  • You can still buy the old type bulbs on amazon. I bought a pack of 12 100watt bulbs for about 13 quid free delivery.

They aren't energy efficient...and you can get 24 for the same price on Amazon.

70W Halogen's would be considered energy efficient energy rating C and cost about £2 each and output the same light as a 100W incandescent.

Over 2 years at 3 hours per day the savings would be about £8 on the electricity bill at 12p/kWh per bulb before they'd reach end of life. 2000 hours. Easily covering the £2 purchase price.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

My friend is totally into energy efficient lighting and has both an aquarium and vivarium as well as the usual household lighting. He swears by a company with the unlikely name of banggood who are in China and he imports his bulbs but be careful to keep the order under the amount where import tax is due. I hope this might be the sort of thing you are looking for.

Aldi have some offers coming up on Sunday.

They also stock the old type of bulbs, but the pack says they are for commercial use only (a way around regulations).

I just ordered a 5-pack of SES / E14 Philips branded bulbs on Amazon from UKHobbyStore: only £7.99, so they're much better value than the supermarkets etc. Store has a 4.9/5 rating too.
