Natwest Credit Card

Hello everyone.

I am trying to improve my credit rating. Last month I was accepted for a Natwest Select account with a cheque book facility. I was also accepted for an Aqua credit card. My question is: because I was accepted for a Natwest current account with a cheque book. would i be accepted for one of their credit card?

Thanks for any help.

    Not necessarily.
  • Only I dont want to apply and be turned down. I was going to use the account over the next 6 months or so then maybe give it a go.

Not necessarily. Credit cards have much tougher acceptance than bank accounts, even with a cheque book facility. When you took out your account, they most probably would have offered you one if you were eligible as they would of seen your credit file. However, maybe not. Best way to find out is to apply. If you haven't got that many searches recently, it won't hurt you too much anyway. There are plenty of softsearch facilities out there so you can check your chances of acceptance, without harming your credit file
  • Cheque book doesn't really mean anything these days anyway. Its not really a credit facility.
  • Hi again

Thanks for the advice. To be perfectly honest. My credit rating has been terrible in the past, and even thats an understatement. How difficult would it be to get an overdraft with Natwest with the Select Current account?

What colour debit card did you get?

Overdrafts are not that easy to get either. Depends how bad your credit file really is. The main thing however, will be bank behaviour. How much goes in, if it goes in every month or not, how many direct debits/standing orders you have, how much is left, if you ever go overdrawn etc etc etc. They may offer you one but again, you'll have to bite the bullet and apply.
