Where have all the Motability Cars gone?

  • I think he is now deliberately inserting "clues"

Not clever enough for that... just predictable (yawn).

Bit out dated my grandson is seventeen has just passed his test and is my named driver, I have agreed to pay the first £400 of any accident and my car cannot be over 1.6 litres

Also the 25 and living with you has been changed to within a mile and has now been updated on special cases.

Nice to be on the ball better if you check the up dated version.

    Thanks for that treborc,

    - there are and were always exceptions [to support the customer's mobility needs] allowed an all areas
    - in both [25(-) & one mile] cases the areas you quote seem to be exceptions, not norms
    - point me, and others to these new rules that are now [changed from the above] the norm
    - I'm always happy to be 'put right' by yourself, that way as you say we will "be on the ball better"
    - your help is appreciated, I look forward to hearing from you

    A bump post!

  • If I can get the postings back on track, as it seems the Volvo V60 SE Lux Auto is a no go car on the scheme, Can anybody suggest a largish car that has the following:

    1. Electric seats that remember who is driving from which fob is used and get into the correct position (I have only have two fingers on one hand and prosthetic legs and it is difficult if not impossible to use manual seat controls to position the seat correctly).

    2. Large enough boot to tale a Autochair 150k mini-hoist to lift in and house a power-chair (folded).

    3. Either a 240v inverter socket or high enough rated 12v Power supply in boot to take an inverter to trickle charge the power chair whilst driving.

    4. Automatic/semi automatic gearbox.

    5. Capable of using one handed mulitiplex hand control unit.

    6. Powered tailgate (optional but very helpful).

    7. Still have use of the back seat whilst the chair is in the boot.

    8. Preferably a turbo-diesel engine (I do a round trip of 130 miles on the M1 at least once per week so should take care of any particulate filter blocking problems).

I apologise if my specification seems restrictive, but a vehicle fitting the bill should give me all I need for another 3 years of trouble free and pain free driving.

I suppose I could go down the wheelchair driver WAV route but the costs are quite prohibitive and I would prefer not to have a van based car. A reasonable advance payment of around £3k is not a problem though.

    Colin.

Colin J, it sounds as if you *need* (as opposed to "want") quite a lot of sophisticated stuff! I haven't looked at the Motability website for a few months now, but I did when they brought in the new rules about limited upfront payments. Plus there was an article about it in their magazine. I'm pretty sure that they said that in cases where there was exceptional need that exceptions could be made to the rules. I suggest you might be best to write to Motability with details as to why you need the bigger car, and ask if they can tell you how to apply to them for exemption from the new rules.

Good Luck! And best wishes from Liverpool. :)

Edit: Just went and had a quick look at the Motability website, think that this page may point you to extra help you may need. All the best, Maggie

I know someone who is getting a new motability car soon and they said that the one they wanted (top of the range) was not showing on the motability website, but he rang the dealer and told them what he wanted and they said that it was on their list of motability cars and he was able to order it from them. He was obviously concerned that he dealership had made a mistake and checked several times but they were able to order it and he will be collecting it next week.

    Thanks SuzieSue,

Yes I have noticed this with a few manufacturers, that there are cars available which do not show up on the Motability car search website.

It makes one wonder what the value of the Motability website is if it does not show all available cars whilst searching.

Sadly though, whilst Volvo do have a couple of cars available which do not show on the Motability website, they do not have the particular V60 (or equivalent bigger V70 brother) I need available to lease on the scheme.

    Thanks anyway.

    Hi UK Maggie,

    Many thanks.

I will e-mail Motability and see if they can do a bespoke lease in my situation. I am happy to pay an Advance Payment upto say £3k, but if I went down the 'drive from' WAV I would need some help towards it as the advance deposits are very high on this sector of vehicles. I would rather charitable funds were given to people who need such a WAV.

However I would rather Lease a 'normal' automatic car with adaptions which would work out cheaper for both Motability and myself. The AP being £1300 for the Volvo S60 SE Powershift on the current list. On previous quarters lists the SE Lux has only been £300 more which is well within their £2k limit (which I disagree with but that's another story).

Anyway, I will see what Motability respond with and let you know.

Have you not considered buying a fully warranted 2nd hand vehicle from the main dealers?

Generally a 3 year old car will cost you approx. 50% of what it was when new.
  • I doubt it's the cost of the 2nd hand vehicle which is the problem, it's the cost of the adaptions. Motability subsidise the adaptions available on the scheme.

It's ok if you drive a standard car.
