OS Daily Thursday 19th September 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Usual dash this morning, Has anyone noticed how it's turned so dark so quickly. It gets harder to get up each day .... or maybe that's just my lack of motivation!

DH's birthday today so it's steak for dinner and a nice bottle of wine too. It's not very OS but compared to the price of a meal out, it will still be cheap. We will celebrate with DD and GDD at the weekend with a meal in our favourite curry place, which is incredibly cheap and has fantastic food.

Better get going so will leave with usual well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

  • Morning,
Couldn't sleep so I thought I would get up. May as well take advantage of the peace and quiet.
Plans today are to head off to autism support coffee morning to meet other parents in the area and then might break out the ironing board for an hour or two.
Fasting today so not sure what I will do for tea as haven't looked that far ahead :o

    Hugs and spoons xxx

TTFTM happy birthday to your H

  • Hi all, hope everyone is well.
Been very busy the last few days with work, and BF's brothers 30th birthday which was a good evening. Sadly BF's great uncle died on Sunday, so the funeral is arranged for this coming Monday. Need to try and get the time off work for that...
Trying to book some leave for next year and it's all coming back as refused. Not sure why. We aren't meant to be there next year, our promotions are due to come to an end in March, but no official desicion has been made yet about it, however they have to let us book leave, because if we are made to wait until next year and go back to our old offices, all the leave will have gone from that office. I raised it with our highest possible office manager yesterday so we'll see what comes from that.
Getting my slow cooker out this weekend! Can't wait! Beef stew and the new series of Downton Abbey on Sunday :-) perfect!
Hope you all have a good day!

  • Morning

    Lovely sky Sistercas.
Sorry about your loss glitterkitty, but Yay for Downton returning :)

Must hoover today. I bought DH a new towel and it has moulted. The bathroom looks like it's been snowing green snow and the bit's have picked up on everyone's socks, so it's in the lounge too! I washed it first as well.

Stopped and picked some more blackberries yesterday and picked some cooking apples from dad's tree. Made a lovely crumble yesterday and made sure there was a portion left over for my breakfast.
Might have a go at some apple and blackberry jam too.

Wishing you all a good day :)

Hugs to Molly, PP, Hilly, Beemuzed and anyone else in need.

Chilly here today, hubby has been fed and dropped at work, I've had my breakfast and am on my 2nd cuppa.
Fish have been fed and there is a load in the WM that will go on the maiden, I need to unload the DW and do some ironing, I may clear out my food cupboard too as it's a bit cluttered.
I'm trying to do something extra apart from the bare minimum every day. I didn't manage it yesterday as I was tired but I must make an effort today.
Apart from that I shall watch some catch up TV and do some crochet.
I've finally uploaded a pic for my avatar, 3 of my favourite little girls sat on a rug.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Dull, dreich, dark and gloomy here this morning. Heavy rain forecast for most of the day.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was roast chicken, roast new potatoes, carrots, broccolli, baby sweetcorn and gravy. Did put the jam and cream filling in the sponge cake, so menfolk had cake for dessert. Not sure about tonight but have a few different bits in the fridge - may make a quiche, will decide later.

Engineer came out to my dishwasher yesterday and was in my house less than 5 minutes - he arrived with the same wrong part that the Engineer brought 2 weeks ago - do these people not communicate? - I've now had 3 different Engineers visit and every one of them has brought the wrong part. I really wonder sometimes how these companies stay in business? Have spoken to them again, and have been on the manufacturers website and spoken to the manufacturers service team (DW is covered by extended warranty from store where it was purchased so repair has to be through them) and manufacturers say they think I need a new outer door/control panel - so have passed on this information to the relevant people, was also able to get a part number for the incorrect part they keep bringing so have told them to put that on the record so that they don't arrive again with it! I think they may be trying to pull a fast one - as a new outer door is obviously going to be much more expensive than these bits of chrome handle they keep bringing. The advisor I spoke to had to speak to a Technical expert and I've asked that a Supervisor/Technician comes out to look as they obviously are not understanding what the problem is - as they can clearly see from their records they are visiting with the wrong part he has said that he is going to request a visit from a Technical Expert - whether this happens and we can they get this sorted remains to be seen! I await their call........

On a better note, took the tower from my pc down to the computer guys I use and guy said I needed some more memory so has put some more in and has also done a couple of other bits which has improved the speed - he also said it would be a really good idea to have a MOT type service on it as there's loads of stuff that we could get rid of but I don't know how. So at least the computer performance has been improved!

Now on days off so will crack on with all the normal chores, have a serious case of the CBA - will do my best not to sit on here all day.

    Keep safe and well x

Hester - it is very tiring just breathing some days so dont be too hard on yourself x

I had one of those days yesterday and ended up sleeping most of the day:(

Sistercas - Guinea piggies are very prone to lumps and mine lived to a good age with her tumour. When she stopped eating was the day we decided enough-was-enough xx

Today I am going to attempt to make cakes (ably assisted by DD) as my poor mother is getting sugar withdrawal (as Dad on special diet) and DD wants cakes to take with her to uni to help break the ice.

    Otherwise physic this afternoon (groan).

Hugs for a good day x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Morning all,

posted in a rush yesterday as we were going out on an ADVENTURE (aka a drive up to the big city) then found the post had not 'sent' when I got home. Oh well :o

'Big city' became a wander round IKEA which is a rationed treat as I go into 'grab everything like a zombie with storage issues' mode. I did get 8 cream fleece blankets to use as winter curtain linings which will sort out 2 bay windows and the chilliest bedroom window for £24 instead of the £mega for 'proper' liners, so I think I am a step towards redeeming my OS badge.

DH has had his urgent hospital appointment date - for a month's time when they will repeat all the tests the first specialist ran because those will be 3 months out of date .... he is very down about it all.

sistercas - what a lovely sky!

    Hugs all round, x
