I've copied one sheet from a large workbook using the move/copy option into a new workbook so I can distribute it. I always use this way as it keeps the page setup and print options etc.

The file is showing a size of 2.5MB ! (It's a simple 1 page P&L)

If however I copy the contents by copying and pasting into a seperate file it is only 29KB, which is what it should be.

I have tried googling and the suggestions of delting rows etc I have tried before and it makes no difference.

Any ideas pls?

So have you pressed Ctrl+End on the sheet to find the intersection of the last used row and column? And is that cell well beyond the area that you're copying using copy and paste?

    See if http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/ExcelProblems.htm helps.

In the file that is 2.5Mb, you have probably copied the formulas across as well resulting in a bloated file. If it is for distribution, copy the data, go to 'paste special' and paste as values.

No formulas or links, I always paste special values.

Cheers chippy I had already tried the tips on this website.

The cell is very close to the original data when using ctrl+end

Have you got any cell borders, colours, etc?
That will seriously inflate the size of the file.

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

no, nothing, a very simple P&L. I'm beginning to get concerned that the original file may be corrupted.

I've had this on odd occaisions - not sure why. Some things to check:
Have you inadvertently created links back to the original workbook? (In edit menu, links would be black not greyed out)
Have you inadvertently carried lots of Styles over to the new workbook? (Format - Style and see if there are lots of duplictes)
Have you inadvertently carried lots of Named Ranges over (look in Insert - Name - Define)

I think if it was me I'd give up and do this instead:
    Copy entire sheet
Go to new workbook and paste special values, then paste special formats.
Go to old sheet, File, Page Setup and change anything very slightly (eg zoom from 79% top 80%)
Switch to new sheet and do Control-Y (repeat) which will set the page setup on the new sheet same as old sheet
