Flat Screen turned white??!!

Wonder if anyone can help.
My 19" flat screen has turned white and won't change. Tried unplugging and checking connections etc to no avail. It does flash on and off when loading up and then settles on white.
It is 1 year (and 17 days old!) therefore out of its Argos warranty.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can you try another monitor on your PC and try the screen on a different PC? If the fault moves with the screen take it back to Argos and tell them it went just as you were leaving for holiday and have only just got back - might work , might not.
There is of course the reasonable life span issue, that is how long you can reasonably expect a product to last, 12 months is way short of most people's reasonable expectations for a screen.Signature No Longer acceptable -

Exactly. Why do people just accept what a store calls a "warranty" as being the extent of consumer rights. Argos MUST repair or replace the TV under the Sale of Goods Act. Absolutely any sane small claims magistrate would not consider 12 months a reasonable amount of time for a TV or monitor to last."She is quite the oddball. As suggested, try it on another comp, or another screen on your comp. Before rushing back to Argos (who incidentally can choose to repair the screen if it is economically viable for them - also a remedy under the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regs 2002, which amended the SOGA), you need to make sure that it isn't your graphics card on the blink.0

Tried another screen with computer and it works ok.
The 'faulty' screen wouldn't work on another computer, in fact just with the power on, the screen is white, before I've screwed in the blue connectors!
Typical! Just a few days out of the Argos warranty. I hate having a showdown in the middle of a shop!0 -
Silly question I know but worth a try - has anyone been fiddling with the brightness/contrast setting etc on it?What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Yes, I've thought of that.
It went off yesterday whilst I was out of the room, no one else around. Switched everything off and thought it might feel 'better in the morning'!!
No such luck.
I agree about the brightness, but none of the buttons are responding at all.
Thanks for your help.0 -

So long as you go in knowing what your rights are you should be able to run rings about them. Trust me the last thing Argos want as well is a shouting match in their shop in front of all those customers, especially with them obviously trying to trounce your LEGAL consumer rights."She is quite the oddball. I doubt it will come down to a shouting match in the store, Argos do pride themselves on their customer service and in my experience are good to their word. Speak to a supervisor and explain the situation and I am sure they will deal with it in the correct manner.
On some items Argos or the manufacturer may offer two year warranty - check the receipt and monitor paperwork.Signature No Longer acceptable -

I've found the booklet!
The LG electronics warranty is for 3 years.
So is this through Argos or do I have to deal directly with LG?
Their wording says:
LGE UK Warranty Policy
In the event that you require assistance with any product, please contact the dealer from whom the product was initially purchased
If it is not possible for you to contact your supplying dealer, please contact the LGEUK Customer Support Team.
etc etc
Thanks in anticipation of any replies.0 -

Your first point of contact is through Argos and they deal with the manufacturer. You should only need to go through LG yourself if you're having a problem with Argos not being cooperative. If LG didn't uphold their agreed warranty then in that case it is they you would take to court as a warranty tends to superscede the normal Sale of Goods Act rights."She is quite the oddball.
