Getting a Natwest Credit Card - But had Past Problems with Natwest !!

Question on behalf of my brother:
He had a Natwest Current account way back in 2008, and also opened a Savings bond with a linked savings account put £50k in the bond and the rest in the Savings account linked to it (About £13k). Natwest messed up and did not pay the correct interest in the linked savings account (It was a special promotional rate at the time), many complaints later and getting nowhere he contacted the FOS, Natwest then admitted their mistake paid the interest due and an additional compensation payment.
But they also closed the bond (It was a 5 year bond) refunded it back into the Natwest Current account with interest (Which no one asked them to do, and in fact they should never had done as it was for 5 years). He then reinvested it with Lloyds.
Few months later he got a letter from Natwest saying his account would be closed, 30 days to move everything and that was that, not explanation given. He went into the branch and was told it happens all the time, told there was no problem with his account it was a commercial decision. Got copies of all credit reports noting one them either then or now, every other bank has given him Credit Cards etc.
Now fast forward to last month, he applied for a Natwest Savings account, it was opened then closed, no explanation nothing, branch did not have a clue why.
Now he has Credit cards, always paid off in full and never likes debt, but he does like banking and cards to work to his advantage and not the banks, so he has a Halifax reward account (£5 Reward per month), the Halifax Credit Card (£5 reward each month), and the Airmiles (Now AVOIS) Amex card.
Now he likes the Idea of the Natwest Cashback Credit card, but in view of the above would he actually get it or be turned down, as I don’t think Natwest like him, I think personally it was because he caused them a lot of both over the Bond, and taking them to the FOS, it was a lot of money. Or does the Credit Card application go a different route so to speak from the Current Account, Savings accounts etc ?.
Thanks

It would likely be refused, yes.
Based on the above experience, I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of my business anyway.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
I wouldn't bother; I agonised over it when they refused to lend to me but there are actually far better cards out there which are easier to obtain! Don't let the fact that it's a "world" card fool you - the "cashback" rate is pants and you don't even get total freedom of where to spend the points.
Based on your own experiences I would also say, sod them.Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
AVU will kill itDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
