  • I have loads of ideas, but it's the old lifers that sit in there all day every day that aren't bothered. I can't force anything on my own.

The committee are members, they are nothing special. Any member can stand for election to the committee and is then in a position to put propose ideas and put them into place.

Its not always the local club rules about knowing members to get proposed and seconded. These are governed by CIU rules. With the women bit, women were never allowed to be full members but rules changed about 5 years ago and now women can be a full member without a man. Again this rule was governed by CIU rules.

The problem with new committee members is that they have great ideas but never get the support to impliement them. They normally need a little funding but this never happens

Unfortunately many committeemen are only there for a couple of free pints at the committee meeting. One club I know decided to clean out all of the hangers on and said that only soft drinks would be served at the committee meetings! That sorted them out!

As previously stated, some committee members think they are gods, I understand the frustration of people who want to improve their club.

I suggest that they see if there are any younger members around their own age who might be interested in joining the committee, they could then begin to move things along slowly at first then gain some strength by asking other younger members to join.

I spend my life talking to committees, and I have made many good friends over the years, but it does take some patience!

I often go to the local rugby club/miners club/store club, dirt cheap and such a better atmosphere than any pub/club locally. A lot of them regularly have ladies nights/tribute acts or live bands. I'd choose them over city centre prices any day!

I am sure some people have great clubs near them, but sadly mine is more expensive for drinks than any of the pubs nearby. Which would be ok if there was other things there. But it's generally empty or full of old alcoholic codgers who don't want anything to do with younger family men. It's really no surprise they are struggling, they are their own victims really.

Although I notice they have a sky dish now, which they didn't have 5 years ago so I might be tempte to check them out again.
