Insuring items bought abroad

Does anyone know if it possible to insure a laptop purchased abroad? It is an apple macbook air bought from an apple store in the USA, so has come from a reputable place.

Yes you can insure it here. Some insurers get funny about things and ask you to give a copy of the receipt for the VAT and Import Duty to show you lawfully brought it into the UK rather than smuggling it in illegally.
That said, FOS have been less supportive of this point. Some insurers will therefore probably pay but advise they will inform HMRC of your tax activities.0 -

It should be fine for most home insurance policies but if you are thinking of a gadget type policy then beware. Some require that the gadgets were bought from a UK VAT registered company.0

If you're asking whether it would be covered under your UK household contents policy........yes is the answer.0
