Paying Deposits

I am going to be moving into a house share and I was wondering who I pay the deposit to is it still the landlord even though the deposit has to be put into a “government scheme”, and if I do have to pay the deposit to the landlord how do I know if he/she has put it into this “government scheme”

you still pay the deposit to the landlord or agent. They are obliged by law to let you know within 14 days which scheme they are using. We have just paid our deposit today and we got our tenancy agreement. It stated in that which scheme the deposit was with and how they handled it.0
