Hi
I'm at a friends house and I've just managed to record an old vinyl record onto his laptop using Audacity.
I couldn't get any sound at all either during record or playback I've checked all sound settings on control panel are as they should be.
Someone one who knew what they were doing had it playing sound a couple of days ago, but we've no idea what he did!
Any ideas on what to try please

Have you tried a file that you know definitely produces sound? Also look in the device manager (right click my computer, properties) and see if there are any yellow triangles and/or that the sound card/processor is working properly. Oh and is it XP? (Just assumed it was)"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Make sure that Mic Boost is enabled as some of the vinyl recordings come out very quiet if using the mic jack, also check the wave volume as well as the main volume, I nearly pulled my eyes out when my sound went and I was looking at main voloume and that was OK, and I totally bypassed wave volume even tho the slider is next door to main volume :doh:0

Have you got the speaker leads in the correct hole, did you mute the sound on the Volume control near the PCs clock, take out any wires that you used for recording as you maybe getting a feedback loop (type thing)
