I bought a gadget from Currys
ION Video 2 PC Digital Video Converter for £9.97
to convert camcorder tapes to dvd. I am hoping to plug the camcorder into the device and capture the video on my laptop.
However, last night I found a HAUPPAUGE HD PVR 1228 for £39.97 in Currys and bought it for my son for Christmas so that he can record his PS3 game play.
My questions are...
Would the PVR convert camcorder tapes to dvd?
Does the PVR represent good value for money?
Are there any draw backs to either gadget?

Looks like they will do the same, but the PVR will do more functions onvluding storing the video, rather than just passing it out to usb
Perhaps id you would have put the model of the camera in some one whom know that model might be able to say if it is a composite or a digital output0 -
According to Amazon, the HD PVR was originally sold at £200 and they'll now sell it for £99, so on that basis, yes it's good value for money at £39.97! Which Currys was it?xxdeebeexx wrote: »However, last night I found a HAUPPAUGE HD PVR 1228 for £39.97 in Currys and bought it for my son for Christmas so that he can record his PS3 game play.

Thanks... I tried looking for it on the internet but couldn't always find the same model number.
I have just noticed this on the page that you foundThe HD PVR also has standard definition composite and S-Video inputs so you can record your old home video tapes into an AVCHD format for creating Blu-ray DVD
recordings.
I wonder if I can record straight from the camcorder.
I am fussing because I wanted the PVR as a Christmas surprise and to be honest I don't know what I'm doing!
I think I might ask over on the gaming thread to see if anyone has used one.
Thanks for taking the time to respond
