E-ON prepayment meter, debt almost cleared but still claiming a HUGE bill!
I reluctantly agreed to a pre-payment meter to clear a debt incurred due to paying 'estimated' direct debit payments for my gas supply which left me with an incurred shortfall of approx £600.:shocked:
Anyway, that was a few years ago now, and i have now paid off £557 of this debt, and getting to the point where i am thinking of having this prepayment meter removed. However, i recently sent an email to E-on, querying my outstanding balance, only to be told my balanccce owed is £1554.67!!!!:( How could this even be possibble?
I have cleared £557, which e-on have confirmed that they have received, and all usage has been paid via pre-payment, so where has this excess balance came from? Is this normal? Do they pre-estimate future balance and add it to your bill? I just cant make any sense of this!!!
Anyone experienced anything similar??

The figure may not be including your current consumption that you have already paid for brought using the meter - they sometimes 'forget'.
If you are wanting to know what the true balance owing is - ask, then if they say t is more than you expected, ask how this is possible when you pay up front.0 -
Hi Rosey_R
That certainly doesn't sound right. As you've been paying for both your usage and the debt through the meter, the balance on your account should reflect this.
We send statements every so often to show the payments you've made and how we've charged for the gas you've used.
On your last statement, were all your payments shown? Let us know if any were missing and we'll see where they've gone. Any receipts you may have will help here.
Could also be a mismatch between the prices on your meter and those used on your statements. If this is the case, we'll re-bill your account correctly so the prices match those on your meter.
These are a couple of things that sometimes happen with prepayment meters and help put accounts out of kilter. However, it could be something else. If you talk to us about this, we can see what's been going on and the actions we need to take to put things right.
Please, either call the number on your statements or, if you prefer, drop an email to the address in my Profile. I'll be happy to take a look for you.
