Help please! My text is duplicating when I copy & paste

Options
As my title says really. I don't know what's happening - assuming someone has changed settings somehow & now every time I copy & paste something, it says it twice eg. it will write KING’S CROSS ST PANCRASKING’S CROSS ST PANCRAS or jamjam

Can someone please tell me how to sort this? Thanks :)

It would help if you said what program you are using, and what OS?

  • whoops sorry! It's happening on IE & chrome, and it's just general copy and pasting as I enter lots of competitions, so copy the answer from the comp boards here on MSE then pasting to the entry form. But each time it's duplicating the answer or if I'm emailing it duplicates the email address.

It's never happened before & it's pretty annoying!

Form auto-complete (a feature of newer browsers) is putting the information in, then you're putting the information again when you paste?
  • I don't think that is it as each C&P is unique for each competition, nothing else is duplicated - just what I paste in (the answer). It's puzzling me!

Does it do it in simple applications like copying and pasting text in Notepad / Wordpad / Office Word? If it's doing it across all applications then it seems like Operating System corruption that is perhaps running duplicate Clipboards.

Incidentally, you still haven't said what OS you are using ... Windows 7 or what?

  • Sorry, using windows 7. Just checked notepad & office and it's not duping there so it's not across all applications. It just seems to be doing it in IE & chrome.

Thanks for help so far :)

OK, so when you copy something how are you doing it. If it's a text string I usually use the mouse to select (highlight) what I want, then press the Ctrl and C buttons simultaneously to copy it. Then I go to the application it's destined for, click in the field or appropriate space and press the Ctrl and V buttons simultaneously to paste it.

Does this method still result in a duplication for you?

  • I've just given that way a go and the way you've just said works perfectly as it should! I'll just do it that way then, thank you :)

I normally use the mouse to highlight what I want, then right click & click paste - used to work fine, honestly don't know what's gone wrong.

    Thank you :)

OK, pleased that workaround does work. I'm still totally bewildered as to why your previously working method doesn't any more. One of life's little mysteries. :)

It might just be worthwhile running a full anti-virus scan just to eliminate the possibility that you've picked up some malware possibly of the key-logging type.

You could do a reinstall of Chrome and see if that clears it?
