I have an area of floor that I need to tile with ceramic tiles. The area is 124cm by 60 cm. the majority of area is concrete but about 12cm each side it changes to wooden floor boards. I have sawn off teh ends of fllor boards to the joists and screwed them down so there is little to no movement.
Which tile adhesive should I use. Normal or Flexi? Oviously I want to keep costs down and would prefer to use one.
Thanks,
C

Have a look at mapei keraflex. Should be OK on it's own with that small amount of wood. See link below:

They also do keraquick which is a quick setting version.0 -
Title adhesive is the reason most aspiring fiction authors end up stuck for inspiration. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0

Thanks. So it would be okay to use any Flexible Adhesive over the whole area? Local Building suppliers don't supply Mapei, so I will have to purchase another brand.0 -
Is the substrate flat - particularly at the concrete/timber inrterface? If its not then some SLC over the whole lot first. Oh and flat means less than 3mm variation. Level doesn't matter too much in tiling but flatness does.
If it is flat then prime the whole area with SBR first - dampen (just damp not soaking wet) the concrete with water before appying SBR.
Use a single part flexible rapidset. If you are tempted by the Mapei DO NOT buy the Mapei branded stuff from B&Q. It isn't the same.
If there is the remotest possibility of your tiles being even vaguely translucent use a white one NOT grey. Bit more expensive but grey can show through.
An alternative to the Mapei is Ardex X7R but again thats not cheap.
A good moderately priced adhesive is Bostik Vitriflex.
Whatever you do do not buy the Topps Branded SPF (green bag). Its made for them by Palace but its made to a price rather than a spec. Its carp!

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but what is SBR?
The concrete is level with the floor boards.
I will try and source that Adhesive.
Thanks.0 -
'S OK. Its an acrylic primer. It will stop the concrete sucking the moisture out of the addy before you get the chance to lay the tiles. Builders often use it as an admixture in mortar too. Don't be tempted to use PVA to prime - unless you want your tiles to come up of their own accord!

It has to be a flexible addy if you are tiling on to 2 differing substrates.
Each to his/her own favourite. Webber always seems good and cost effective to me. It's also what my local specialist supplies so....I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
