Overpaying on Business Tariff - Advice Please

Hi there

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice. We have been with EON for several years. We were made to go on a business tariff as my husband worked from home. He no longer does so we contacted them to advise.

In a nutshell it transpires that we have been paying nearly double on our electricity rate and not far behind on our gas. Our monthly DD has rocketed to £90 for Elec and £60 for gas over the last couple of years , as it crept up it never seemed to much of a shock but I'm really hacked off that this is allowed to happen (I live in a 3 bed 80's semi, not a mansion.....)

I guess my question is, would i have a case to argue for compensation/refund? They used to send a renewal each year but I never really understood it so feel its my fault this has happened. However I have insulated my home and taken all measures to reduce our bills, how can they get away with overcharging so much? No wonder we are all in a financial mess.

Any advice would be very much appreciated

I can't see the case for compensation TBH. As you stated they sent you a renewal each year, it will have said if you don't respond you are accepting the new rates. As such you contractually accepted them.

SME auto renewing contracts are a pig, and fortunately the big 6 recently announced they will be withdrawing them, but that doesn't help your circumstances much.

The only way out for you would be to prove usage was purely domestic over the period, and that your husband wasn't trading from home, there could then be a case to be rebilled on a domestic tariff.
