twycross or chester zoo which is better? (any chester vouchers?)

hi
looking to go with the missus at the weekend to either twycross or chester,

twycross is much much closer (1 hr on train rather than 2) but people seem to say chester is better (larger range of animals)

what do you think?

also do any chester vouchers exist - ideally for adults

  • I'd say Chester.
I am sure I read it up somewhere that it's the best in the UK?

I haven't been to Twycross Zoo for a few years but I've been to a few Zoos including London & Chester recently and although London is highly rated, I much preferred Chester.

Chester Zoo's much bigger, and they do have a wider range of animals. It's easily a full day out, whereas I didn't think Twycross needed more than a couple of hours.
Chester Zoo don't seem to offer many discounts, I think it's a little cheaper if you pre book online, or you can get them from Cheshire Oks, but that's not much use if you're getting the train.
BTW you can take your own food into the zoo, and there is even an indoor picnic area in case it rains.
DH and I have lifetime membership and go pretty much weekly, so if I can help with anything let me know x
  • Chester, went earlier this year (although it rained!) but loved it, plenty to see and do, and plenty of places to eat your packed lunch or buy something in the caf!. Caf! is a tad expensive for my liking, cost me something like £6 in May for a bowl of homemade soup and bread - which was stale, although the soup was yummy!
