Santander 123 Credit Card Retailer's List

Options
Hi
I recently got a 123 cc & the 1st thing I did was search their website for my local retailers. Everywhere from online stores, to my local Coop gas station & the cinema.

So far I have found hardly anything. So far I'll only get cashback if I shop in my local Tesco & nowhere else if I believe that list.

On their own 123 retailer's search page it even says trainline.co.uk in the write up... but search for it & it doesn't come up. Search for my train stations & none come up. I found an article listing that it can now be used in a whole bunch of popular restaurants ... I checked a few & not a single one came up.

I have a good credit card that does give me rewards everywhere. Obviously I don't want to start using the 123 card unless I know I get rewards too.

In short, does anyone have or know where I can get a full list of their current cashback retailers?

Thank you.

    It's called thetrainline.com, not .co.uk.

It only knows train companies and ticket companies, not stations.

The search function is pretty poor. You have to guess what to enter. And it can be picky about blank spaces even at the end.

For shops, it's best to leave the location box empty. Get a national list and scan it. Otherwise, it'll only find an exact match on the location name. It doesn't know any geography, so it won't come up with all the shops in the area.

Don't worry too much if individual branches of chains don't seem to be listed, they'll work so long as they have the same category codes registered with Mastercard.
"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis
  • Thank you for your response. You're very right, the search function is extremely poor. Adding location or not, trainline.com ... nothing is showing up for me.

How on earth am I supposed to know if I'm going to get cashback? I'm putting in some big names there, no location & I'm getting nothing.

So far my only answer is try the card there & see what happens when I get the bill... sacrificing any other reward I might get from my other cards for the month. Do you have a better idea?

    Thank you.

I had this problem too, new petrol station opened up beside me, and wanting to support the local guy rather than Tesco/Asda etc, I filled up there 2-3 times throughout the month (Had done some serious driving in the summer!!) only to find that their merchant code was obviously not one of the recognised ones to get the cashback. Strange as it is solely a petrol station, one of those ones you use your card with no cash, so unfortunately, even though he is cheaper per litre, when you factor in the cashback and the points, I'll be using Tesco down the road from him.

Is there anyway you can check the merchant code of a supplier?

Rather than messing around with lists I just use the 123 card for petrol, rail tickets and Oyster top-ups (3%), and department stores at 2%. My Capital One card pays 1% on all purchases so is used whenever the MCC is unknown.

Vortigen - I agree. It's the only way to go. I'll do that too.
