Stannah stairlifts

Hi everyone, my parents have been quoted for a stairlift from Stannah and it seems awfully expensive to me - in excess of £5000 to have it fitted. Is this the normal price? I realise they are more expensive than other stairlifts but this really does seem a lot of money to me.

Stannah is the default name that people think of where stairlifts are concerned but that's not to say that others are less good. I've seen a lot of advertising from 'Acorn' on TV but there will be others. Get quotes from a few and go with the best for your (or your parents rather) needs.

I have a Stannah, it gets me up and down the stairs as advertised but I certainly wouldn't call it a Rolls Royce of stairlifts, it just does what I'm sure many others could equally well.
  • 5k is a ripp off.

400-500 max parts, say another 200 labour, the rest is commission and profit.

Most of these companies seem to prey on the elderly and clean them out.

To add insult to injury they offer to buy back to lift when its 'no longer needed' for a pittance so they can then fleece someone else with it.

If it were me I would buy a good used one that will fit and pay someone to fit it. They pop up all the time on gumtree. Locally.

I suppose if you have a winding staircase it won't be that simple, but if it is just a straight one then it should be easy.

    Good luck.

    Try Direct Stairlifts:

Their prices are on the website so you know what you will be paying.

I had one installed by them a few months ago after a recommendation on another thread on MSE and they did a great job. I'll try and find the thread.

I think it was around £1,300 but it was their most basic one and my stairs are straight. I think it will cost more if the stairs are curved

If its a curved stair lift it can cost £4k+; my lift a Platinum Curve (which is a copy of a Stannah) was over £4k (lucky I didn't have to pay).

You have to shop around or you could be ripped off and sold something expensive when a cheaper straight lift will meet your needs.
