I'm not sure what you mean - the scheme is clearly ridiculous, but it was N.Clegg who announced it.

.. which made me think it was his idea.
I know Cameron is soft, but I can't believe the majority of the Conservatives in Cabinet would agree with this, unless it was some sort of quid-pro-quo.

Mrs T will be spinning furiously in her grave.
It's definitely Clegg's idea, but it's ridiculous, and, by allowing him to float it, the Tories saw a chance to make the LibDems look 'out-of-touch' (which is what Mr Cameron is frequently accused of).

I guess we are now into the period of time where election bribes are being formulated.
I can see an argument that children from poorer backgrounds will learn more and be more challenged if they have full bellies, but giving this to all children is a cynical election bribe to appease the Lib Dems.
Clegg is a disgrace and I would rather vote Tory for the first time in my life than trust a party that allows him to remain as its leader, prancing around full of his own importance.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

It was in exchange for the reinstatement of the married couple's tax allowance, apparently.
This level of horse trading doesn't fill me with confidence regarding the more serious matters of running the country.0
