If it had broken after the plastic coupler, you would have been able to replace the string with a new one.
You will need to replace the complete pull-cord switch.
There are cheaper brands however, I woud suggest you go for an MK replacement if you want the switch to last long:

If you aren't competent with electrics, you will need to find someone who is. It doesn't have to be an electrician who replaces the switch. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
Buy a new string.
Thread the loose end of the small piece left on the actual switch though the plastic piece. (Some of them come apart BTW which makes it easier) Tie a knot in it. Pull it tight. Reassemble if necessary. Job done. Material cost less than 2 quid and about five minutes of your time.
If you can't manage that then follow Mysers advice and buy a new switch.
Actually image a bit grainy and out of focus but is there still either a knot or a heat generated lump to sit snug in the plastic part on the end of the string on the switch? Is it just the plastic bit that has broken?
