Office 2013 trial expired - help pls

Hi,

Hope someone can help.

The other day I tried to open a Word doc but the icon had changed and when I tried to open I got a message saying that the free trial of Office 2013 had expired and I need to purchase.

It had changed all the icons for all the docs stored on my laptop.

Don't want to buy Office 2013 and am looking at downloading Libre Office instead - unless anyone would suggest something else.

I had to open the doc at the time so had to sign up for a further 30 day trial of Office 365. So for now I'm able to open docs and it has changed all my icons back to "Word symbols".

Please can anyone tell me how I go about removing the Office 2013 and installing Libre Office in its place?

Will Libre Office definitely open and work okay with all my existing Word docs as I'm frightened I will lose ability to open docs once this extra 30 days trial expires.

Am not very techie and it is a laptop I am looking to load Libre Office onto.

Many thx in advance.

Download and install Libre Office. Restart (probably optional).

Pick a Word document, right click it, choose "Open with > Choose default program..." and set it to Libre Office.

(If you do want to uninstall Word/Office (don't do this until you've tried Libre for at least a couple of weeks and are happy with the new interface/changes in page flow/non-native framework) type "uninstall " then a space in the start menu search and choose "uninstall a program". It should be listed under Micorsoft Office...)
