Laser printer help

I am fed up with inkjet printers with ink drying up etc so thinking i will go for a laser printer, it is only for home use.
Any suggestions?

  • stay away from colour (increases the toner costs hugely), and make sure you do all your toner purchasing through the internet. Otherwise I got mine through a second-hander friend who gets them bloody cheap... I don't think the new models are so advanced in quality that they're worth paying the money for

Assuming you want a mono laser only, you can't beat one of the budget Samsungs for about £60. Available in both USB and wireless versions.

Thanks for the replys but i was thinking of getting a colour while i am at it, I have seen a Dell C1765nfw for £149.99 and as i always seem to be either running out of ink or when i do want to print the ink has dried up i thought i would get one of these and think it would work out cheaper in the long run.

Dell laser are very good, got 2 myself, mono and colour. Had them both over a year now and print about 5 a week (not great amount), but have yet to replace the starter toner cartridges.

Got the dell 1250, it appears it uses the same cartridge as the C1765, and compatible toner is about £30 from amazon, not tied them yet, but they have good reviews for the toner

That's because inkjet print heads do dry up if not used regularly. Run it at least once a week to prevent this.Lasers do not (since there are no print heads).
But for your apparently irregular usage, a colour laser is not likely to be economic.
Aren't Dell printers just rebranded Brother models?

I had the same problems with inkjet printers. I wasted so much ink cleaning the heads. I bought a Samsung Laser Printer (CLP-315W) for £160 in 2009. Its brilliant. Its wireless, and works from either my windows laptop or my partner's mac. The quality is superb and the printing is fast. This model is obviously no longer on sale, but based on my experience I would recommend a Samsung Colour Laser.

I'm a light user, and all I've replaced so far is toner.
