PPI claim has been mishandled by solicitors.

Hi, my partner had a PPI claim in with a solicitors firm, he had heard nothing for a long time and had called them on several occasions and left a lot of messages, he was never called back, he had even spoken to the claims handler who said he would call back.
A couple of weeks ago he called again and was told a message would be left, he said he was unhappy about this and wanted to complain as he is never called back.
Well he did get a call back this time, apparantly the file was closed last year!! They had been waiting for documentation being returned from him so they could lodge a claim with the financial ombudsman, he had returned this, I can vouch for this as I helped him complete it. They have said that they never received this and the claim is now time barred.
I told them that the file should have been reviewed if time bars were in place, I told them of all the phone calls over the past year that were never returned. They agreed and verbally told me over the phone that the claims handler had been issued a warning for improper conduct. They also advised my partner to send in a formal complaint for them to officially acknowledge it.
I have fired off a letter, but what happens next?
Do I let the legal complaints commision take its course or would it be better to contact another solicitor to claim against the first?

Very few solicitors actually get involved with PPI. It is mostly claims companies. Although some try to pretend or give the impression they are solicitors.
What happens next will largely depend on whether it is a solicitor or a claims company. Can you verify which?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I agree. We need to know who the "solicitors" are.0
