My not-so-little bundle of fluff has decided that he doesn't want to drink water from his bowl (refreshed 3 times a day) but wants to drink from the tap instead.
I have seen those water fountain thingies but am loathe to buy one due to running costs - filters and electricity.....
Does anyone have any advice on how (if possible) to get him to use his bowl again?
Thanks

Most cats prefer running water to the one in their dish.
That does not mean they will not drink from a dish - when they are thirsty.
My lot drink from a tap when I leave it running but they also use the dish.
I had one of those water fountains and they are great - but with a dog could not keep one for cats as it was always empty 0 0

Mine both prefer running water. The little one will drink from a bowl but the only time the big one drank from a bowl was during the heatwave this year. I did consider buying a fountain (there's a thread on here somewhere) but ended up filling the bath slightly for him to go into.
The only thing you could do is just make sure the bowl is the more available option, maybe not leaving the tap running as often? Even then I'm not sure it would work.0

My vet told me that some cats don't drink from water dishes because they don't like their whiskers touching the rim - I swapped one of my water bowls for a smallish oven tray and both of mine seem to much prefer this. It's shallow enough that their whiskers aren't touching anything, but it's harder to spill and holds more then a saucer.

ps I had a fountain for a while, but I'm not too sure that they drank any more from it. I think it was mainly for playing in.....0

Our tiger drinks from the PAN in the toilet! As well as puddles, water features, you name it, he drinks from them.Angelicdevil wrote: »My not-so-little bundle of fluff has decided that he doesn't want to drink water from his bowl
You could use said bowl as a plant stand!
Sorry, your after ideas. We use a dog bowl as well. He drinks that occassionally often!0

Another one with a cat who only drinks from the running bathroom tap.
During the hot weather you would find her lying in the sink waiting on someone turning the tap on, especially during the night.
Really cute to watch and she is not interested in a dish / bowl / tub to drink from,0

I've read that cats don't like a water source close to their food and will avoid it. My cats drink from the dogs bowl, in another part of the rm.:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0

Mine will only drink from a large plastic tub kept in the shower tray in the bathroom. At least it's easy to change, every time we get out of the shower we clean and fill it up.
We had one of the fountains but they didn't like it and it was a faff to clean it.0

Ah thanks guys, I will move his bowl away from his food and see if that helps.
I don't want to get into a habit of him expecting me to run the water or fill the bathroom sink for him.
It is funny to watch though as he has a good splash around and occasionally falls in.I have a simple philosophy:
