Help Needed to Close a BarclaysPlus Account in my childs name

Hello,

I signed to OK my 14 year old Daughter a bank account with debit (chip & pin) facilities about a year ago.
3 months ago she fell out with me and moved into her dad's. How do I get this closed down?
i have the account name, sort code account number, home address etc?

My worry is that her dad will use the account for his own purpose as he did with my eldest Daughters saving account.
He works a lot of cash in hand n so on.
Obviously I signed for her when she lived with me and at our home address?
It seems shes been able to change the home address by herself, is that right?
We managed to get my eldest daughters account closed as she went into the bank with me, but what do i do in these circumstances?
Help appreciated, thanks in Advance.
Worried

If the account is in her name I suspect you'll be unable to close it without her agreement.

I'd also counsel against closing it, if she thinks you're trying to "control" her from afar what damage will it do to your relationship? Teenage girl's logic is not easily understood.

There'd be nothing to stop your ex just going with her to open a new account anyway.
  • whilst I understand your advice - her dad was using a junior child's savings account to pay two wages in.
When I reported it to Barclays and had to insist that they close it - which they did.
i also complained to the Tax Office and shortly afterwards he had a bill on undeclared earnings over 3 years he owed them.
If the account had never come to my attention both Barclays n HMRC might never have known!!
I dread to think what will happen to this account. And the relationships already damaged as she doesnt speak or visit etc?

is your name on the account along with your daughter's, or just hers?
If just hers then it's probably none of your business. What did the Ts and Cs for the account say, that you signed up to when opening the account?
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

As she's been able to change the address herself it would imply hers is the only name on the account. You could write to the bank warning them of past misconduct by your partner or to the tax office informing them he may have access to this new account. In both letters stress you have no interest in the account.

Either way, your ex's relationship with the tax office isn't strictly your business, other than perhaps a general duty to report a crime should you know of one.
