pick up and told in office to ignore any minor marks on car, I look at car when i get to it and nothing stands out, no rep is around to check with me.
upon return rep is around and looks at it and says 2 small marks, not noticeable and could have been there before, too small to say either way. I tell rep no way, and refuse to sign his form acknowledging I did damage, he says it will be up to head office to decide, I tell him I will dispute if i am charged, fobbed off with 'it will probably be ok, don't know' etc.
so get charged £80 on invoice and on card automatically.
I try and contact the 2 italy billing emails on invoice and they BOUNCE BACK over and over, so no way to dispute it. Anyone know email that replies? Even tried europcar uk email - no reply!!!!
awful awful customer service.
I will initiate a chargeback on credit card, which is a hassle as they are slow to respond too ( NATIONWIDE )

How much extra did they want off you to add a zero excess waiver?0

And your point is?
The cars I've rented in France the last few years have done 40-50,000km and are covered in small scratches. I'd be upset too if I brought it back and they tried to charge for something barely noticable.0 -

I pay the extra for zero excess when I rent a car abroad just incase of situations like this or flat tyres, chipped windscreens. If the extra cost was greater than £80 then the OP is better off not paying for zero excess in the first place.0 -
Not sure that the OP should have to pay more as a "rip off waiver" rather than an excess waiver.
A large international company like this should not be trying to con customers in this way. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Have you compared the Italian waiver cover with other EU countries?0

this was my quote, I think the risk reduction cover would have been in approx £200, but I did not take it out as my rental quote was approx £400 and it would have made the total £600 which is big jump.

this is their terms and conditions, I have not signed for any damage upon return, I refused to, plus they have not inspected it with me, upon pick up.
7.1.2 Light damage (valid only if applicable)
Both at check-out and check-in Europcar will, together with you, record in the rental agreement all visible light damage to a vehicle in compliance with the detailed list of light damages and repair costs displayed at the counter which you hereby acknowledge.
At check-out unrepaired damage must appear on the rental agreement with the appropriate signatures by you and Europcar. At the end of the rental i.e., at check-in, the identification of any new light damage must be added to the rental agreement. Any new light damage will be immediately pointed out to Europcar, mentioned in the rental agreement, and signed by you and Europcar. This damage will be charged to you at the repair price mentioned in the list displayed at the counter. Where this option is available, you will approve by signing electronically or by signing the relevant paper document.
These repair costs will be directly billed to you by Europcar and will include the cost of the damage repair as well as administration charges, immobilisation costs, spare parts and labour costs. The above-mentioned invoiced repair costs are payable under the same conditions as for the payment of the rental agreement.
Europcar strongly recommends that you carefully read this information available at counter0 -
and when I say light damage, I mean it, it was a dark car, and there was a silver scratch that would need a tiny squirt of spray paint and a muddy mark on bumper, looked like mud not even damage. £80 for something you would just leave or not notice on your own car....0

AT €100, £80 they are hoping you will pay up and not start a fuss
I wonder how much those small marks have mined for them @ £80 a time??0 -
europcar are horrible, i would not use them.
they want the car to be in some amazing condition or something. Like it's fresh out of a showroom.
Their policy is somehing like any damage greater thn a 2p coin is chargable. So you're supposed to go over a car with a magnifying glass or something looking for tiny 2p sized damage on a 20K mile car??
Customers dont know about their policy and they get stung when they return it.
Someone needs to do a class action lawsuit against them0
