CCJ 'Satisfied' but still can't get credit card

I lost a (no win, no fee) case at court and because the insurance company I had taken out a policy with in case I lost (ATE - After the Event) refused to pay - I had to pay the £10,500 costs to the other party and I had a CCJ put on my credit file. I paid this within 2 months and it is listed as 'satisfied' but I have been unable to get a credit card since. Up until then I had no problems at all getting credit cards (for 30 years or so).....has anyone else had this problem?

I'd imagine anyone with a £10k CCJ on their file would have problems, yes.0

Don't think many people have a problem knowing that a CC'J on their credit file is normally a case for lenders to say no chance, whether its satisfied or not.0 -
Why did they refuse to pay if you were covered? Did you contest and put a formal complaint in?0

I can't understand why, if you had a "No win, no fee" claim, you had to pay when you lost. This makes no sense. The clue is in the name.0

The issue is you have a judgement and your score when satisfied is only marginally better than if you didn't pay it.
Like insurance companies assessing risk, they see the CCJ and care nothing of the reasons behind it. 5 years on they will not see it anymore, and only then can you pick up where you left off.0 -
How soon after getting the CCJ did you pay it? If you paid it quickly then you can ask the court to remove it.I lost a (no win, no fee) case at court and because the insurance company I had taken out a policy with in case I lost (ATE - After the Event) refused to pay - I had to pay the £10,500 costs to the other party and I had a CCJ put on my credit file. Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Thanks...within 2 months could also mean he paid it on day 29 so I was trying to clarify exactly when.sharpy2010 wrote: »He says he paid it within 2 months. It needs to be paid within 30 days for the court to remove it.:footie:

No probs, just clarifiying what I thought was the situation. Could be wrong of course, as you've highlighted something I didn't think of! All the best
