Barclaycard (Egg) Credit Card

Has anyone had any success reclaiming PPI from Egg Credit Cards. I applied online in 2000 for a credit card and when applying I did not get a choice of having PPI or not. I did not ask for it, it was automatic so went along with it. However I found out in 2005 that it was not compulsory so I cancelled it. I sent a claim in to Barclays who now run the account and they have replied after a long time.

They say they have checked the online application and that PPI was not automatic and that I must have asked for it. They also say that because it was done online I have no cause for complaint as the terms and conditions were given. As I had other income protection in place at the time I would not have chosen PPI on the card and I certainly did not ask for it.

Has anyone had any success claiming against Egg or having the same difficulties as myself. Help and comments would be gratefully received.

Sorry, but they are right, if applied for on line, it was not advised/sold to you. The option was there, you have ticked possibly even by mistake and just forgotten. After all, this was 13 years ago.

Did you read all the terms and conditions? If you had, you would have known at that time that it was not compulsory.

End of the line I'm afraid.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Send it to the Ombudsman. I think it was pre-ticked in 2000.
If it wasn't pre-ticked, they also had time outs, which meant you didn't have enough time to read the blurb before you had to re-start your application.

Problem is despite me sending of for the SAR as the loans were egg they will not have the full details and fear they will use this as an excuse... we will see. all have agreed that I had PPI just waiting now

i didnt have any details for my egg loans, Canada Square sent me a questionnaire and i filled in the details i had and sent it off..when that cheque had been received...they sent me another questionnaire for a loan i didnt even remember having so i called them to explain. The adviser on the line told me to put down as much info as i could because they had all the details!! which is what i did and that lead to another cheque. As for your credit card they all moved to Barclays (had one of those too). I phoned barclays and asked if i had ever had ppi on the card and he gave me the start date and the cancellation date and opened a complaint for me...another cheque :j
I've found that rather then going to get a SAR straight away call the company in question and ask if they are able to locate your details...i've done that with Egg, Barclays, HSBC, Halifax and Santander...the only one that posed a problem was Santander...MBNA are next one my list.

    Dont give up!!
  • HI Forgetthat,
When did you apply for your Egg credit card and why did they ask you to ring them, when you applied online?
  • I opened an egg card in 2000. Got a knock back from the FOS and appealed that and got a final knockback.
I stated that i rang up as i was having issues and was advised that i needed it. Im afraid it all fell on deaf ears.
I do believe barclaycard fought it because i think i would of been entitled to over 10k. Gutted

They didn't find any evidence of missale in your case. It happens.

Barclaycard likely fought it as they saw no wrongdoing. The fact the FOS rejected your complaint as well indicates that there was no likely wrongdoing either. The amount is largely irrelevant. They have paid out bigger.
