telecoms company charging less on a higher tariff

Hi. just wondering my telecoms company has charges me less on a higher bb tariff for the last 9 months so just wondering if they do they have a right to backdate the payments and charge me the difference ? i mean they said it was an error in their system yet i dont even know if i got the service if the first place. it was the fibre 40 meg package before i 'upgraded' to 80 meg. they've charges half and half on the bill, no engineers came, just switched me over 9 month ago.also theyve just realised this and put me on 40 meg package 9 months later without my kbowledge now so thats how i found out and enquired when i looked at my last statement. do i have any rights? thanks.
