Npower - say I'm blocked from getting bills, can't pay them!
Hi
I've been with Npower for about 18 months on an economy 10 tariff...had a few problems at the beginning, but got sorted out.
For the first year I got estimated bills, and had to phone in the correct readings (always lower!), I can't give the readings online, as their site doesn't accept 3 readings at once. So I have to phone, and I hate it...it's like no-one wants to deal with economy 10, and I get passed from department to department.
Had my last bill in March, so a month ago I phoned them to ask why I hadn't had a recent one...the lady looked at my account and said there was a block on sending me bills, and then carried on talking as if it wasn't important, I had to stop her and ask what she meant. I didn't really get a good explanation, just that they were having problems in that department, but if I gave her the readings I would get a bill.
They also sent me a letter in August saying they were changing the bills (instead of paying for what I use, the unit price is being reduced and they are introducing a standing charge, this is backdated to May). They were going to estimate my readings from 31st May...I had my own readings from that date (yes, I've become a bit obsessed,
It's so expensive I want to know what I'm using) so I gave those readings as well.
So a month later - still no bill. Today I got an envelope from Npower...thought it's here at last!...no, it was a generic letter about how they share my personal information.
Has anyone else been told their account is blocked for bills?
How long does it usually take you to get bills from them?
Should I just go straight to the complaints department?
How long would they let this go on if I don't follow it up, before they hit me with a huge bill?
Sorry for waffling on, I find problems with big companies are usually complicated!

There is an issue with some utility providers not being able to produce bills for "complex" meters such as economy 10. This is an IT issue at their end.
My advice would be to set up a direct debit to pay a monthly sum for around what you think you are using - if you ring them they can work out what the average use would be for a house of x number of bedrooms and y number of people.
Or change supplier and see if they can produce a final bill! But whoever you change to make sure they can bill Economy 10 meters as my understanding is it affects several providers, I have a friend who works in the industry.

Many suppliers cannot bill a 3 rate meter so you may not be getting a good deal. Ask them in writing for your unit rates then calculate your bill. You may be then better moving to a supplier that can bill you.
I know BG would put someone on a best fit tariff and tell them it would be more expensive than normal as they could not bill it.This then lets the customer have the choice to stay with their original supplier.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -

I have my units rates (both old and new) in writing.
I did speak to BG last year, but as you say, they said they don't do economy 10, so wouldn't take me. I stayed with Npower because they were producing bills last year...I wonder what's changed between then and now? And how long it's going to be an issue?
Perhaps I should consider changing to economy 7, where it seems I would have more choice of supplier...although I've no idea what changing involves, and if I'd need anything done to my meter.
I do business accounts for this flat, and I NEED bills...I have my doubts that HMRC would be happy to accept my own calculations!

you will be able to pay if you have an account number, as above is likely to of been likely storyDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
