Ebay and Manufacturer's Warranties

I’ve bought goods in the past from ebay uk without any problem, I’m now looking at a number of kitchen items, from registered business sellers, and it is making me think about warranties. I’d appreciate your comments.

Here are a few descriptions of items I'm interested in:

Used: “Ex Display Demonstration Unit . Used Only 1nce By TV Shopping Channel For Demo Purpose

New other (see details): “The box is worn and taped, however the box has not been opened, please see details”

In cases like this will the manufacturer’s warranty be valid?

How do I know if the manufacturer's warranty still applies?

I should add that I'm only looking at sellers with a good history and that some of the items are auctions while others are buy it now items

You probably wouldn't have a any manufacturers warranty (but not impossible). You would have a claim under SOGA against the retailer though.

But you have to factor in the fact that these goods are probably pre-owned, customer returns or scratch and dent and you will be buying at a significantly cheaper price. You can't really have your cake and eat it.

If the manufacturers warranty is important pay the money and buy from an authorised reseller, if you can live with a bit of risk then buy from ebay.

On these sorts of items I would expect 3-6 months guarantee without issue from the retailer (SOGA says 6 months).

Are they likely to fail? If no then they will probably be knackered when they arrive (ie DOA) if there is going to be a problem and you just send it back.

I do agree and I'm buying at a cheaper price and know that there are risks. But I was just wondering when you see items marked ex-display, or box damaged - goods that are effectively new but really couldn't be sold at full price from an ordinary retail outlet whether or not they carry the manufacture'rs warranty.

Some will, you can only ask. The danger of course is they either lie or don't know and just say yes.

Interestingly I bought a shower a few years ago, on EBay which died, I'm pretty sure it didn't have a warranty but I blagged it a bit and told the Engineer when he was here I had bought it on EBay he said not to worry. I'm not sure his office would have been quite so blase about it, lol.

(I have removed the company name but they make Sport showers)
