When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. .

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

    Morning :wave: thanks for starting us off ally! Hope you have a productive day shootforthemoon :D

    Still not feeling great so have cancelled meetings & am working at home again today. Felling optimistic I'll get through alot :)

    Things for today:

    * check banking
    * kinda NSD - am bidding on an xams gift for dgd but that will come from VP pot so none of my "real" money
    * [STRIKE]quick shower[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]work out cc spends - massive overspend this month :o need to continue with the searching out things to ebay![/STRIKE] not as bad an overspend as I thought! Currently over by £35 overspend. Easily recovered via ebay :D
    * [STRIKE]all meals from stores - left over veg curry for lunch to use up from the other day. Will bulk out with some veg ;[/STRIKE])
    * [STRIKE]heating off - will put on extra jumper if cold[/STRIKE]
    * unpack tesco delivery tonight & portion up & freeze what can be
    * might check onepoll but to be honest have lost the will on this!
    * [STRIKE]speak to db re bath & when he is installing rad in bathroom - think it's this weekend :j[/STRIKE]

    Think that is my lot at the moment. Fuzzy headed and not in the swing of things today :(

    Managed to return top yesterday - I had 2 days left in which to return it & not anymore time when I could go and the young sales asst wasn't going to give me my money back as it didn't have the tag in! Had to really negotiate with her and convince but in the end she did :)

    Anyway better get on. Have a great day x
    DF as at 30/12/16
    Wombling 2025: £87.12
    NSD March: YTD: 35
    Grocery spend challenge March £253.38/£285 £20/£70 Eating out
    GC annual £449.80/£4500
    Eating out budget: £55/£420
    Extra cash earned 2025: £195
  • Plan to relax today but already have done the following

    * Online survey, points are now totting up nicely
    * Cancelled subscription to a PC games website, you have to sign up when purchasing a game, I bought the game mid August and meant to cancel this before the first payment went through but forgot (oops) so did it this morning with no problem. Cancelled it because 5.99 a month is £71 a year.... Anyhow, no problem as it seems I am entitled to another game for free as part of the deal, so will choose one I really like to play on these autumn nights.
    * Need some shopping, and petrol as well, so have made a strict list and will use up some coupons I have including money off per litre
    * Heating still switched off

    Other stuff for later on...

    * Check banking
    * Check free postcode lotto
    * Find more stuff for baying and photograph it

    Have a nice Tuesday everyone xx And Happy Birthday for tomorrow, ShootfortheMoon x

    I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning all :) Thanks Ally for starting us off today :)

    Today i have/will:

    -Check OLB
    -Write monthly (instead of weekly) budget
    -Do online shop
    -Keep heating off
    -Walk to/from school and to/from cubs instead of driving (car in garage)
    -Eat from meal plan
    -Make Nann breads instead of buying (i love HM nann, they are easy!)
    -Have a relaxing day (OK, not really DF stuff, but much needed).

    Have a great day!
  • Morning everyone - been a busy few days so haven't been on much recently! Thanks Ally for starting us off :)

    My plans for today:
    *Check internet banking to make sure everyone has transferred me their money for tickets to see Reginald D Hunter that I bought yesterday on the credit card
    *Pay off said bill for Reginald D Hunter on credit card
    *Asda delivery tonight - after some serious budgeting
    *Keeping the heating off. I suggested we keep it off until end of Sept then hubby nearly blew me over by suggesting we try it until the clocks go back. So that's the plan - no heating until the end of October (I'm getting my thermals ready now!)
    *Do my ironing - only ironing what actually needs to be ironed!
    *Start 'Ripped in 30' DVD tonight

    And that's about it for today!
    Barclaycard (0% until May 2014):[STRIKE]£1,365.61[/STRIKE]£1,178.05
    Santander loan:£3,362.31/£5,763.96 (55%)
    Money owed to in-laws:£2,100/£10,000
  • PS It is the 17th today...........

    I didnt even notice that! :rotfl:
  • Hi everyone :wave:

    I’m playing that well-known DFW game – take one step forward then take two steps back – we all know it, right?! :p

    Things were tight this month but just fallen off the edge – I need to hire a car this weekend as dad is in hospital and it’s the cheapest way to get there at short notice. Got a good deal and 10% off through work scheme so only £54 for a car Fri-Tues and then about £90 in petrol. Also going to get excess insurance separately rather than through the car hire place – about £20 a weekend rather than £20 a day!! I didn’t know you could get this separately before I became a professional car hirer when I got rid of my first car in 2009. Don’t want to get stung for £700 or whatever it is if I don’t take it out and something happens.

    Small things:
    - Cheapo porridge brekkie
    - Packed lunch
    - Checked banking
    - Booked a trip away with the girls for Nov - £30 for 2 nights in a v posh looking place – we book a self catering place and order a Ts delivery so we’ve got all our food and drink in.
    - Look out hire car excess insurance deals
    - Planning/prep for Thursday’s class – got ‘ready made’ students as taking over for someone :T
    - Helped a pal prep for job interview
