Kodak Hero 5.1 Printer with Failed Printhead

I bought a Kodak Hero 5.1 Printer from Currys in January 2012. Recently I have noticed the print quality is terrible. The colour prints perfect but the black is faded and missing despite putting a brand new ink cartridge in less than a month ago.
I went through Kodak's support service on their website and after following all the instructions with regards to the missing print it says my printer needs a new printhead.
Now a new printhead is going to cost me as the printer is out of warranty but surely a printer should last a few years. My last printer was an Epson and I had that for 4 years before giving it to a friend who still uses it on a daily basis!!
Do I have a claim against Currys under SOGAicon as the printer has developed this fault within 2 years or would I be better off buying a new printer?

You can certainly call the Currys helpline to discuss options, however you may need to get a engineers report to state that it is a inherent fault, and not caused by something you've done (such as not using the printer for a while leading to blocked print heads or keeping it in extreme climactic conditions)
Also just on the off chance you took out the instant replacement, double check your receipt.0 -
I didnt take the Instant replacement. I managed to find the receipt though. Might be easier to buy another printer0

With the Kodak printers the printhead is a consumable and they only last a year or two, you can buy a replacement for around £5, the old one unclips and the new one just clips into place.0

Inkjet printers are so darn expensive to run. You'd think those cartridges were filled with unicorn tears. Fact is the manufacturers have decided to stop thinking of printers as printers and now design then as ink using devices.
This leads to stupid situations like the HP 1050 somethingorother which is the device which made me swear off ever using an HP printer again as long as I live. It has a built in scanner which it insists on printing a calibration page for on each power cycle/cartridge change/phase of the moon. It'll happily interrupt a print job for this resource wasting time wasting frustrating exercise in pointlessness. Not just a rubbish printer, but an actively nasty one, malicious at heart.0 -
I have decided to cut my losses and just buy another printer. Much easier.0

Do you do much colour printing? I've found a far more satisfactory arrangement by using a mono laser printer most of the time then for printing photos etc using Jessop's (we still have one), Boots, etc. Laser toner can be much more economical.0

Seconded paddyrgs comment. I use a Brother mono laser, something like model HL2170. The printer itself was sub £100, cartridges last for ages, compatible cartridges can be bought, and you can refill them too. Must have saved a fortune on inkjet ink over the years.0

Thanks but I have already reserved myself an epson printer.0
