How much investment would bring £500 a month return, in the current market.

It would entirely depend what you are invested in. Did you have any particular fund/share/bond in mind?

Average yield on my investment trusts are around 4% (excluding any capital increases). Therefore you would need around £150,000 to provide an income of £6,000 - £500 pm.0
