Under the counter fridge/freezer?

Options
This is directed, mainly, at people who (like me) live alone.

I have a very small kitchen, and currently have an under the counter fridge.

I was intending to buy a small chest freezer, which I planned to put where the cooker normally goes (I have a two ring and small oven, counter top cooker), but that's where my bin and laundry hamper currently live.

I've noticed they make under the counter fridge/freezers, like this one from Argos.

I've checked the dimensions, and it will fit under my counter, but I'm wondering if it's really big enough?

So, is there anyone on here, who has one?

If so, do you find it has a large enough capacity?

    I suppose 2 questions...

    1. you currently have an under counter fridge... How full is it at your fullest point (usually after a shop)
    2. What do you currently have for a freezer? Again, how full does that get?

I would have thought you may have 2 separates at the moment, essentially double the space as to what you propose, it's if you could live with that.

Might be worth going to somewhere like currys or somewhere to have a nose around see it in the flesh, but don't forget they tend to look bigger I'm the shops!

Not very, but then I don't do a full week's shop in one go.

I don't have a freezer at the moment.
  • The freezer is 25L capacity, not too bad for a single person wanting to store a few products. Depends on how you imagine using it- do you want to cook and freeze to save money, or just store a few basics or treats like ice cream or handy frozen peas or pizzas?
Having the smaller fridge - consider storing cold drinks in hot weather, but then you can make ice cubes too lol!
Consider also the added leccy costs if you go for a chest freezer, and the extra costs of shopping to fill it.

I would say thats prolly OK. I had one of similar dimensions to that when I was free and single in my first flat. Did me fine. Not much room for food once the beer was in though but somehow I managed :D:D

Husband and I had a undercounter freezer and it was plenty big enough for the both of us :) But we never have huge quantities of food in the house at any one time.
  • I wondered the exact same and ended up buying one very similar (here) just over a month ago, must say I'm pleasantly surprised at how much it fits!

I also live alone with a kitchen that is fairly small I have had an under counter integrated freezer and fridge. Just bought a new freezer and I wanted an integrated frost free one. Not a lot of choice and expensive but I am tired of defrosting over the years. I bought AEG cost £475 Miele I would have liked but at over £800 just too much
Unlike you I do a big shop online and as I have been without a freezer for over a week. Buying fresh every few days but I would not be without a freezer. It is about your life style I don't go out every day I spent £106 today. I tend to do online about every 10 days and top up from M&S inbetween. I do hope what ever you do I am sure will work for you. I have a narrow dishwasher also and I would not be without it. Good luck and enjoy your new home!

  • It's just arrived, and the freezer is roomier than I expected.

Just need to find a home for the fridge now.
  • You can never have too much fridge space IMO. I have two, an older under counter and a new taller fridge and wouldn't be without either. It's surprising what can kept in a fridge, it keeps some fruit and veg very nicely.
  • I agree you can't have too much fridge space, but how much you do have, depends on how much kitchen space you have.

In my case, the answer is not a lot, hence my need to part with the fridge ASAP.

Currently, whilst the two items are in the kitchen, my bin is in the hallway.
