Fastest way to switch once moved in new home
I will be moving in next week. What is the fastest way to switch to the supplier I want (M&S Energy) for gas and electricity considering the following?
Objective:
To have M&S Energy as my supplier for Electricity and Gas in my new home asap.
Suppliers in the new home:
Electricity - Southen Electric (Prepayment)
Gas - British Gas
Suppliers in my current home:
Electricty - EDF (Direct Debit)
Gas - Included in the rent
I do not want the prepayment meter and I don't want to stay or use any of the above suppliers, I would like to have M&S Energy as my sole supplier in my new home. How do I go about it?
Apparently I have to pay £52 to Southern Electric to have the prepayment meter removed. I don't even want them as a supplier, already to give them £52 sounds a bit silly. If I ask EDF to take over in the new home, being my current supplier, can I avoid the removal charge that way, and then switch to M&S Energy?

Southern Electric is M&S Energy.
SSE Energy Supply Limited, trading as SSE, Southern Electric, Scottish Hydro and SWALEC (SSE) reserves the right to change M&S Energy offers,
You will have to register with the existing suppliers, then you can start the switching process to SSE (M&S Energy). That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

In that case I have to chose another supplier, as I wouldn't be eligible for cashback. So if the supplier I want to go for is say Npower, how would I go about things? What do I have to do get the prepayment meter removed? I don't want to pay £52 for the removal.
In other words, if I register with new suppliers, and then switch to Npower, can I switch having a prepayment meter? Does Npower take over as prepayment (I don't want that, I want to pay direct debit). Or do Npower take care of everything (removal of prepayment meter etc.)?0 -
One you are in ring round suppliers for quotes. They may want to do a credit check prior to swapping out the meter. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Can I avoid the credit check if I ask EDF (my current supplier) to take over? Will they remove the prepayment meter knowing I have a good history with them? Is the prepayment meter Southern Electric's? Can EDF (or anyone) remove the prepayment meter?
I'm sorry for all the questions, but this is just confusing. I need to understand if I can avoid paying £52 to Southern Electric to remove a meter I didn't ask for.0 -
There are some Energy Company reps that post on the forum, hopefully one will be able to help further, good idea to contact your existing supplier though. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
