Virgin media virus scan turning itself off

My wireless internet has been tempermental today so I turned my laptop off and turned it on again. I couldn't swear to it but I was sure that I wasn't asked for my password and my home page just came straight on but it took ages.

Consequently I rebooted again and this time I was definitely asked for a password. I then tried to scan for viruses with my virgin media security but the scan kept stopping in the same place, checking for a trojan (I think it was called "boot" something "a"). I then ran hitman pro which told me that it had found no threats. However my internet is still dodgy and I'm worried about possible viruses as I logged onto my banking site earlier.

Am I being paranoid?
