maternity pay and tax credits

hi ive just called the tax credit helpline to update them from my p60 and i told him most of my earnings last tax year were actually from maternity pay but he didnt want to know the exact figure?!! i thought that smp didnt count towards your earnings?

can anyone help me!

    they deduct £100 per week you were on mat leave, so i think that leaves about £8 a week of your mat pay, that has to be allowed for when declaring income.

    Call back to clarify, but it seems likely he / she's automatically deducted £100 per week for every week you were on maternity pay.

  • but how do they know how long i was on maternity pay for without asking?

    i didnt tell him how many weeks or how much £ i was paid!
